With sun and wind being such an abundant resource, especially in our part of the world, it is truly surprising that more people do not take the opportunity to go off grid and begin generating their own energy.

On Friday we all got together to watch the Blue Bulls vs. Cheetah's Super 14 match, played in Bloemfontein. I could not believe my eyes' when I saw the stadium had a power failure in the heat of the game! One of the first Super 14 matches, a global audience, a few months away from the soccer world cup, and one of our stadiums is plunged into darkness during an international match. Having just moved to a new house,I am unfortunate to have to deal with a number of the normal issues we all deal with when it comes to transfering accounts etc. On of these is the power bill, which has now almost doubled,in comparison to my last house. Not because I am using more electricty, because the property is apparently bigger! Off course the 35% price increase is also to blame. It becomes real when it starts hitting your pocket.
